SHE Choir Berlin:
a free women's choir in Berlin

SHE Choir Berlin is a free, non-auditioned choir for women and non-binary people in Berlin. We arrange the songs we want to sing, and everyone identifying within FLINTA* is invited to join us!

We are part of the global SHE Choir family – see our Facebook Group for the latest news and updates!

About us

We are a collectively run choir based in Berlin-Kreuzberg, founded in 2016 as part of a network of SHE Choirs. Our members arrange, teach, and conduct the songs we sing - but we welcome new members with no experience! If you can sing in the shower you can sing in our choir.

Come along for an amazing evening with some amazing human beings – everyone identifying within the FLINTA* umbrella (women, lesbians, intersex, non-binary, trans and agender people) is very welcome.

Venue

We rehearse in a room provided by New Yorck im Bethanien, a collective that grew out of a Berlin squat located just north of Kotbusser Tor in Kreuzberg.

To find us: The address Mariannenpl. 2a, 10997 Berlin points right to the entrance but some have difficulty locating the right door. It is along the south side of the large Bethanien building, all the way to the east (see photo).

On rehearsal days, the door is propped open. Go in and climb 1.5 flights of stairs (the second landing) to find the door to New Yorck. Go through that door, then turn left and go through another door. Our usual rehearsal room is just past the bar on the left.

We currently do not have access to the elevator, limiting the accessibility to the space.

Rehearsals

We rehearse every Wednesday 19:00 - 20:30 in our venue in New Yorck. Our rehearsals typically include a physical warmup, vocal warmup, a short round, then we work on learning longer songs. Each segment of rehearsal is led by a different choir member, and we usually rehearse entirely a cappella (without piano or guitar).

When we have capacity we host open rehearsals for new members, sometimes as often as once per moth. During those rehearsals, we spend more time introducing ourselves and the choir, and teach songs from the beginning instead of focusing on those we already know. There is no audition, simply show up ready to sing along!

The last Wednesday of every month we usually have an organisational meeting following rehearsal.

In the last year we have received an overwhelming interest in joining our choir. This is incredible and we are so grateful! Unfortunately, it means we have run out of room and capacity to welcome new members. So we are taking an extended winter pause without rehearsals for newcomers. We will post updates here and on Instagram and Facebook when this changes.
