We're a volunteer-run choir for women, non-binary and genderqueer people based in London.
Singing original arrangements of pop, rock, R&B and more, we put our unique spin on favourites from Destiny’s Child to Carly Simon (with a bit of Human League along the way)!
Our motto: if you can sing in the shower, you can sing in SHE Choir.
Performing
We’ve sung at festivals, weddings and even teamed up with our pals in Chaps choir. In past years we’ve also been a regular fixture at the Women of the World festival at the Southbank Centre.
In 2018 we performed on Radio 4 Woman’s Hour, celebrating the amazing women in the music industry making up the 2018 Power List.
In 2019, we performed our arrangement of Imogen Heap's "Hide and Seek" for ComposeHER at EartH Hackney, an event celebrating women composing music for film & TV.
Our ethos
We’re unique because we are collaborative
The choir is open to and encourages active participation from all members, from leading the physical and vocal warm up to conducting and arranging songs or organising gigs. We try to foster a non-judgemental and open space where everyone feels able to have a go, regardless of experience.
We’re unique because we are low-cost
We don’t think cost should be a barrier to being part of the choir and so we’re committed to being open to all members of our community. Rehearsal fees are pay-what-you-can, no obligation.
We’re unique because we teach as well as learn
We don’t audition members, as we believe in keeping the choir accessible and available to all women, non-binary and genderqueer folks of any age. We create a safe learning environment to nurture talent through regular skills workshops and an annual residential weekend, where choir members learn vocal techniques, take part in arranging songs and take part in confidence-building and performance exercises.
Our history

Founded in Manchester in 2010 by three music students (Susie, Hannah and Ellie - SHE!), SHE Choir moved to the capital in 2012.
Rehearsals began with 6 people in living rooms from Brockley to Olympia, before moving to a yurt in a North London skip garden. We're now based in a brand-new community centre in Aldgate.
SHE Choir has branches across the UK and elsewhere – see the SHE Choir Network for our sister choirs!
Learning
From conducting songs to organising socials, there's an opportunity for everyone. Even if you've never done it before!
SHE Choir is a safe space to learn, explore your voice, and sing your heart out. No musical experience required.
We run the choir as a collective, and everyone's encouraged to get involved.

Join us
SHE Choir London is a trans-inclusive choir for all women, non-binary and genderqueer folks in London.
No auditions, no joining fees. We’re based in the Aldgate area, and we rehearse on Monday evenings.
Our rehearsal space costs us to rent, so we ask members to pay what they can for rehearsals (an average of £2.50 a week). Contributions are voluntary and we don’t keep tabs on who’s paid what.
The bad news: we aren’t taking new members on right now, but we do have a waiting list. You can sign up here: SHE Choir London Waiting List.
While we can’t tell you how long the wait will be, we tend to do intakes once or twice a year. There's a backlog of a couple of years at the moment, due to the pandemic, so it may be a little while.
Frequently asked questions
Will I have to sing a solo?
No! We occasionally have solos in our songs but they're entirely voluntary.
Is your rehearsal space wheelchair-accessible?
